SBA recognizes SigmaTech as Alabama Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Alabama District Director Tom Todt presented the award for the Alabama Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year to Sigmatech, Inc. at a ceremony at the Redstone Summit Club at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville on July 10. Nominated by the AMCOM Small Business Office and the United States Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC), the award, was presented as part of Small Business Week activities and recognizes Sigmatech and its founder, Dr. Gurmej Sandhu for the outstanding work of the company.

“The success of the small business like Sigmatech is a microscopic view of the success of the American economic system. The system which demonstrates that human talents can indeed effectively be integrated across diverse groups of humans for the advancement of human civilization,” Sigmatech founder and board chair Dr. Gurmej Sandhu stated.

“It feels great for Sigmatech employees to receive this recognition,” Sigmatech CEO and President Joe Bergantz said. “There are more than 6,000 small businesses in Alabama. It is pretty good testimony for our company to be singled out from all of those businesses.”

Founded in 1986 in Huntsville, Sigmatech provides technical, management, training and e-learning services to aerospace, defense and federal clients. In addition to Huntsville, the company has offices in Colorado Springs, CO and Arlington, VA. The company has nearly 300 employees and $60 million in revenues. As part of national Small Business Week, in addition to the state honor, on May 22, 2012, Sigmatech received the U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator’s Award for Excellence from SBA Administrator Karen Mills in recognition for outstanding contribution and service to the nation by a small business in satisfying the needs of the federal procurement system.

Attendees at the ceremony included Huntsville/Madison Chamber of Commerce Officers, Sigmatech advisory board members and company personnel. In addition to Dr. Sandhu, Sigmatech CEO and President Joe Bergantz and COO Mike Callahan represented the company at the ceremony. Ron Poteat, Chair-Elect of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County served as Master of Ceremonies and presented Sigmatech with a plaque from the Chamber commemorating the occasion.
